Fall Candle Review

It’s Fall Y’all!

Ok, it’s still only August, but the late summer ninety degree heat in Georgia can start a girl dreaming of chilly mornings and colorful trees a bit sooner…

Everybody tells you how much more you will appreciate things as you grow older.  Guys, they’re right.  I’m not sure if its maturity or a better understanding of what’s important in life, but ohhh are they right.  We were lucky enough to grow up in a charming suburb of Albany, New York that absolutely brimmed with everything Autumn.  As a child, I always saw Fall as a sign that winter was coming and I just HATED winter.  So, I took for granted all of the beauty of the cooler weather, the foliage, sweaters, hot coffee, pumpkins, hayrides, etc…  And now, as a 16 year resident of the great state of Georgia, I appreciate those things from afar, very far and hence wish for them a little early.  I saw a photo on Facebook the other day that rather succinctly sums it up:

Whoever wrote this must live in the South, as these are all the things that I so miss from my gorgeous Falls in New York.  Not that I don’t love my new home, but what a treat to experience a little more of the change in seasons and everything that comes with it.  Ew, bugs.

That said, I wanted to share with you one of my favorite things every Fall.  This is something that even a sweaty Georgian can enjoy year-round, but truly appreciate when they’re longing for the sweet, crisp deliciousness of cooler weather.  For more years than I care to admit, I worked for Bath and Body Works (in many capacities) and loved when we came into the Fall season.  Retail was certainly never my ideal job, however there is something to be said for opening shipments of candles and décor and being left smelling like sweet, rich pies and clean, fresh apples.  Again with the appreciating after the fact!  This Fall, BBW is bringing out several different collections that run the spectrum (including Halloween fragrances later in the season), but for me, only two of them are necessities.

Cork & Vine Collection

The Cork & Vine Collection is clever at harvest time and for those of you that really love wine, absolutely they’ll be a must.  The only one that appeals to me is the Citron Cedarwood, a very clean and fresh woody fragrance that brings the warmth without the heavy grapeiness (is that a word?  It is now!)  They’re pretty with their coordinating gold embossed lids but, I’ll be honest, I’m saving my cash for something a bit more Fall.

                                                             Pumpkin Collection

Now this is for all of us that really want to dive into the season.  These are the sweet, almost edible fragrances that you may not be able to stand at any other time of year.  I’m not a Pumpkin Spice flavoring cheerleader, but my house can smell like it ALL DAY!  The theme here is almost a pumpkin farmer’s market, with the cute tin lids embossed with pumpkin icon and included on each of the labels.  They definitely center on all things edible, so if you’re not into that type of fragrance, they are not for you.  The Pumpkin Spiced Cheesecake and Pumpkin Pie are not at the top of my list for that very reason.  I love the sweet, but these tend to pull more of the cheese and buttery crust smells and that is not what I want burning in my kitchen.  My favorites from this line are the Cranberry Pumpkin (the pumpkin is cut by the berry and therefore more of a tangy fragrance) and the Pumpkin Cupcake (super sweet and oozing with pumpkin and sugar).  I loved this one so much, I had to go one step further and put the Pumpkin Cupcake hand soap by my sink, much to my husband’s dismay.  Mmmm, love working in my kitchen with that treat as a constant cleanser!

          Autumn Collection

Finally, the true Fall fragrances.  When you burn these, they really put you in the mood for firesides, fresh-picked fruit and walking through crispy piles of leaves.  One of the biggest sellers for some years now has been the Leaves.  I will never forget the first year they brought this fragrance out.  We thought people would think they were insane.  The lid-sniff does not do this fragrance justice.  I certainly turned my nose up at it.  It’s a bit sweet and fairly spicy, but once you burn it, you can truly imagine the ground littered with damp, fragrant leaves.  We burned it constantly and sold out of it immediately.  Several of the others that surprised me were the more obscure sounding ones.  Mahogany Teakwood and Flannel are woody, musky and spicy.  Both are clean, and smell almost like cologne.  Very smart for a bachelor looking for something to fragrance his pad without smelling girly!  Sweater Weather is top for me in this line.  I love the mix of Eucalyptus and Juniper that gives it an almost minty smell without smelling medicinal.  Very soothing, but also warm and inviting.  Their copper lids embossed with leaves will set the tone for Autumn!

If you are like me, you are itching for a change in the weather, as well as a fresh start.  Let these new collections be your first step into the season.  There are lots of coordinating goodies for displaying them, but for the quality at the price, BBW 3 wick candles are well worth the investment on their own.  I do adore this verdigris pedestal, though!

The company runs specials fairly often on them, which is when I love to stock up!  Guys, these candles burn for 45 hours, so you can enjoy them all season.  They burn cleanly since they’re made with vegetable wax and cotton wicks and are highly concentrated in fragrance, so one should fill a room.  And, they’re guaranteed, 100%.  You can’t beat that.  SO get your season started right and start burning through those yummy fall hours.

And finally, if you’re crafty, hold on to those pretty candle jars.  As you come through the Fall season and start to eyeball all of the Holiday candles that start making their way into the stores, please remember that it’s also gift-giving season.  Make use of all of the jars that you used!  On our Pinterest page, you will find a board with some great ideas on how to empty any excess wax and turn those pretty jars into useful items for your home or gifts for someone else this holiday season.  More money saved and more to appreciate!

Enjoy!

Ok, had to put in a quick update since they finally released the rest of the collection online!  Before they released the whole collection, my favorite one has already sold out online!!  Y'all, go to your nearest store and grab one, you will not regret it!
